Mount Royal’s Community & School Garden

 

The Mount Royal Community Garden is located in Mount Royal Park on 29th Street.

2018 will be the fourth year for the Community Garden where people can grow food along with friends & community.

People who reside in Mount Royal or have a connection to Mount Royal Collegiate are eligible to have a plot in the garden—space permitting.

To request a garden plot contact Jan More via email at jem29@shaw.ca or phone at 306-382-9634. Include an estimate of the garden size you would like (e.g. 12 X 34 feet; 16 X 34 feet; 24 X 34 feet).

The deadline to request a garden plot is:  APRIL 1, 2018.

 
The deadline to plant is: THE MAY LONG WEEKEND 2018. If a garden is not planted by this date the plot will be given to someone who is waiting.

All garden plots will be premarked. Existing gardeners will be given the option to have the same plot as in 2017.

Garden plots must be kept free of weeds. Activities such as “Weeding Wednesdays” & potlucks are being considered to promote weeding.

All necessary tools are available to borrow.

THE DEADLINE TO REQUEST A PLOT:  APRIL 1, 2018.

THE DEADLINE TO PLANT (seeds or potatoes): THE MAY LONG WEEKEND (May 21, 2018). If a garden is not planted by this date the plot will be given to someone else who is on the waiting list.

PLEASE NOTE: This deadline to plant does not apply to bedding plants which should be planted after there is no longer a risk of frost.

All garden plots will be pre-marked. Existing gardeners will be given the option to have the same plot as in 2017.

Garden plots MUST BE KEPT FREE OF WEEDS & space between plots must be kept weeded by gardeners whose plots are adjacent to walkways & hose pathways.

WEDNESDAYS WILL BE WEEDING DAYS.

All necessary tools are available to borrow. Experienced gardeners will provide assistance to new gardeners.

Mount Royal students will be starting individual tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, geraniums & possibly other plants inside the greenhouse. These plants will be moved to the courtyard to get acclimatized. Some plants will be available to purchase at $1 each BY RESIDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A PLOT IN THE GARDEN. There will be a meeting for gardeners AT THE GARDEN in early May. Composting will be reviewed.

A used riding garden tractor with a rototiller attachment is needed. If anyone has one for purchase, please contact Koreen at 306-683-7800 or geresk@spsd.ca
