Mount Royal’s Community & School Garden
The Mount Royal Community Garden is located in Mount Royal Park on 29th Street.
2019 will be the fifth year for the Community Garden where people can grow food along with friends & community.
People who reside in Mount Royal or have a connection to Mount Royal Collegiate are eligible to have a plot in the garden—space permitting.
TO REQUEST A GARDEN PLOT: contact Jan More via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 306-382-9634.
DEADLINE To Request a Garden Plot: APRIL 1, 2019
THE DEADLINE TO PLANT YOUR GARDEN: THE MAY LONG WEEKEND 2019. If a garden is not planted by this date the plot will be given to someone else on the waiting list.
PLEASE NOTE: This deadline to plant does not apply to bedding plants which should be planted after there is no longer a risk of frost.
All garden plots will be pre-marked. Existing gardeners will be given the option to have the same plot as in 2018.
Garden plots MUST BE KEPT FREE OF WEEDS & space between plots must be kept weeded by gardeners whose plots are adjacent to walkways & hose pathways. Activities such as “Weeding Wednesdays” & potlucks are being considered to promote weeding.
All necessary tools are available to borrow. Experienced gardeners will provide assistance to new gardeners.
A $20.00 key deposit will be required & will be refunded in the fall AFTER the PLOT IS CLEANED & the key is returned.
There are 3 new picnic tables in the garden. They were built by the EAL (English As An Additional Language Practical & Applied Arts 10) Class. Money for the picnic tables was donated by the Mount Royal Collegiate Institute graduating class of 1973. Thank you!
There will be a meeting for gardeners AT THE GARDEN in early May. Gardeners will be given a printed copy of the rules/guidelines which they are required to follow.
Further information will be forthcoming in the spring, & will be posted here on our website: www.mountroyal.info/garden
